History of Support

BAC Community Arts Grants

For over 35 years, BAC has supported arts organizations and community organizations in the development of local cultural resources responsive to community needs.

Arts Education Partner Grant

Funded by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, BAC co-administered the Arts Education Partner Grant with BRIC Arts Media from 2006-2011, and administered it alone from 2012-2014. This grant program supported partnerships between schools and teaching artists or cultural organizations that focused on the interdisciplinary or integrated study of the arts and non-arts subjects.

JP Morgan Chase Capacity Building Regrant

Thanks to generous funding from JPMorgan Chase Foundation, BAC offered the JPMorgan Chase Capacity Building Regrant Program from 2003–2013. This program distributed over $700,000 to small, nonprofit cultural organizations across Brooklyn. These funds supported capacity building projects that contributed to the overall stabilization of numerous cultural organizations, helping them move to the next level of success in achieving their missions.

Soul of Brooklyn Grant

From 2011-2013, BAC administered the Soul of Brooklyn Grant program in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) for the Soul of Brooklyn Consortium. This program was a unique opportunity for Soul of Brooklyn Consortium organizations, a group of nonprofit arts organizations representing the African Diaspora communities of Brooklyn, to secure funding for artistic projects. The Soul of Brooklyn Grant program was made possible by a Rockefeller Foundation New York City Cultural Innovation Fund award.

Artist Community Collaboration Award

From 2007-2012, BAC administered the Artist Community Collaboration Award (also known as the IND-TIER Regrant program) in with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program. This program provided grants for individual artists to support the creation of community-engaged new work. Grants were awarded for artist-initiated projects that enhanced public participation in the arts by directly engaging the community in the artist's creative process.

Creative Coalitions Commission

In 2016, three individual artists living in and working in the Creative Coalitions service areas of Brownsville and East New York received awards of $2,500 to support socially-engaged community arts projects. Funded by New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.
